11.2.4 Public access to green spaces

Metric: Support of arts and heritage

Provide free public access to open spaces and green spaces.

Prince of Songkla University (PSU) provides free public access to designated open spaces, green areas, and outdoor recreational facilities across its campuses. These spaces offer opportunities for local communities, students, staff, and visitors to enjoy walking, jogging, exercise, relaxation, and outdoor activities.

In 2025, PSU reported approximately 9.39 million square metres of open space and 3.23 million square metres of green areas across its five campuses, including forests, gardens, and lawns. These areas contribute to the University’s green environment, while designated public-access spaces support community well-being and recreational opportunities.

1. Free Public Access to Green Spaces

PSU Blue Lake

PSU Blue Lake is a publicly accessible recreational and green space covering approximately 70,564 square metres. It offers walking and jogging routes of approximately 600 metres and 1 kilometre. Visitors can use the area free of charge for outdoor exercise, relaxation, and recreational activities.

Ang Sri Trang Reservoir

Ang Sri Trang Reservoir provides a 1.3-kilometre running and walking route surrounded by landscaped green areas. The facility is open free of charge to students, staff, and the general public. PSU’s published access information specifies opening hours from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

Outdoor Exercise Areas

The PSU Sports and Health Center also provides free access to selected outdoor exercise facilities, including the aerobic exercise area and synthetic running track at PSU Central Stadium.

2. Open Spaces and Green Areas across Five Campuses

PSU maintains extensive open spaces and green areas across its five campuses.

Land Area CategoryArea (m²)
Open spaces9,390,792.82
Forest areas2,026,466.00
Gardens and lawns1,201,106.48
Total green areas3,227,572.48

These areas support the University’s environmental management and provide a foundation for green campus development. Public access is provided in designated areas, subject to local access and safety arrangements.

3. Public Access and Community Benefits

PSU’s designated public green spaces are available without admission fees and provide opportunities for physical activity, recreation, and social interaction.

By maintaining accessible outdoor spaces alongside its wider green campus environment, PSU supports healthier lifestyles, community well-being, and inclusive, sustainable communities.
