1.4.1 Local start-up assistance
Metric: Community anti-poverty programmes
Provide assistance in the local community supporting the start-up of financially and socially sustainable businesses through relevant education or resources (e.g. mentorship programmes, training workshops, access to university facilities).
Prince of Songkla University (PSU), through the Area-based Innovation for Community (P7) Programme, supports local communities and community enterprises in applying technology, innovation and research to improve product quality, strengthen self-reliance and promote sustainable development. The programme targets community groups and community enterprises with at least 10 members.
PSU provides support through community needs assessment, technology training, practical demonstrations, product development, product design and access to university expertise and facilities. Each project may receive support for product development, design and researcher involvement.
Examples of supported community enterprises include:
- Ban Noen Thammang Handicraft Centre, Nakhon Si Thammarat, where PSU introduced natural-dyeing techniques to improve colour quality and add value to krajood products.

- Three-Dimensional Herbal Forest Community Enterprise, where PSU supported the development of fibre-enriched stingless-bee honey powder using freeze-drying technology and university pilot facilities.

- Community enterprises in Krabi Province, where PSU supported processed agricultural products through formulation improvement, packaging and label design, product testing and quality-standard development to strengthen market competitiveness.
- Business Incubation Programme – Recruitment announced on 6 October 2025, with applications open until 31 October 2025. The programme provides individual mentoring, business incubation, product and service development, business-model and marketing support, and connections to finance, investment and market networks.

- PIN#5 Innovation Programme – Activities began from February 2025, comprising six sessions. The programme offered free innovation training for entrepreneurs, businesses and community enterprises, with the southern regional activities based in Songkhla.

- Halal Business Incubator Programme – 23–24 April 2025. PSU Science Park provided free training for entrepreneurs on halal management systems, standards and certification procedures, strengthening their readiness to enter and expand in halal markets.

Through these initiatives, PSU helps local enterprises improve production capacity, product quality and market readiness while strengthening financially and socially sustainable community-based businesses.
