10.6.8 Disability support services

Metric: Measures against discrimination

Support services for people with disabilities.

Prince of Songkla University provides dedicated support for students with disabilities through the PSU Disability Support Services Center (PSU DSS CENTER / PSU DSS Buddy Home) under the Division of Student Development and Alumni Relations.

The Center serves as a central support point for students with disabilities and those with special educational needs, coordinating academic, welfare, psychological and accessibility support across the University.

Student Experience and Accessible Support
PSU’s disability support services are also reflected in the lived experiences of students with disabilities. The video “Where Should Students with Disabilities Study? Ep.5: Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai Campus” presents the day-to-day university experience of a student with a disability and highlights the accessibility and support available within the campus environment. The video is available in accessible formats, including sign-language interpretation, Thai subtitles and an audio-described version.

Academic and Examination Support

PSU DSS provides or coordinates learning support and assistive resources to enable students with disabilities to participate fully in their studies.

Support includes:

  • assistive technologies and learning-support equipment;

  • support personnel, including sign-language interpreters where required; and

  • reasonable assistance and adjustments for examinations.

Scholarships and Welfare Support

The Center coordinates scholarships and welfare assistance for students with disabilities and other students with special support needs.

This support helps reduce financial barriers and enables students to continue their studies under appropriate conditions.

Mental Health and Counselling Support

PSU DSS works in coordination with Baan Wai Sai, the University’s student counselling and mental-health service, to ensure that students with disabilities can access psychological counselling and mental-health support when needed.

Physical Accessibility and Universal Design

The University also improves learning buildings and shared campus areas in accordance with Universal Design principles to promote equitable physical access for students with disabilities.

Access to Support

Students can contact PSU DSS directly for information, coordination and assistance through designated telephone and online communication channels.

Through these integrated services, PSU supports students with disabilities in accessing learning, examinations, financial assistance, mental-health care and the physical campus environment, helping them participate more fully and independently in university life.
