10.6.7 Accessible facilities

Metric: Measures against discrimination

Provide accessible facilities for people with disabilities.

Prince of Songkla University is committed to providing an inclusive physical environment that enables students, staff, visitors and members of the public with disabilities to access and use University facilities safely and independently.

Universal Design in Campus Development

PSU applies Universal Design principles to new construction and building renovation projects. At Hat Yai Campus, the University’s Terms of Reference for new buildings and major upgrades require inclusive design so that people with disabilities can access entrances, circulation areas, shared spaces and services on an equitable basis.

These requirements help ensure that accessibility is incorporated into campus development from the planning and design stage rather than being treated only as a later modification.

Accessible Campus Facilities

Accessible features provided or incorporated into campus facilities include measures such as:

  • step-free or ramp access to buildings;

  • accessible circulation routes;

  • lifts and vertical access where required;

  • accessible toilets;

  • designated parking and drop-off areas;

  • appropriate signage and wayfinding; and

  • accessible shared and service areas.

These facilities are designed to support the mobility, independence and participation of people with disabilities in University learning, working and public-service environments.

Universal Design Center

PSU Trang Campus operates a Universal Design Center, which serves as a learning and advisory hub for inclusive physical design for older people and persons with disabilities.

The Center supports research, knowledge exchange and practical application of Universal Design principles and provides consultation to public agencies and communities on improving buildings and environments for greater accessibility.

The Center also showcases innovations and facilities designed to support the needs of people with disabilities and older persons.

Continuous Improvement

PSU continues to improve the accessibility of its physical environment through building renovation, Universal Design requirements for new developments and technical support from relevant University units.

Through these measures, PSU aims to ensure that people with disabilities are able to access and use University buildings, services and shared spaces with greater independence and dignity.
