Metric: Measures against discrimination

Take planned actions  to recruit students, staff, and faculty from under-represented groups

Prince of Songkla University (PSU) takes planned actions to widen access to education and employment for groups that may be underrepresented or experience barriers to participation.

Targeted Recruitment of Students from Low-income Backgrounds

PSU implements the Ton Kla Prince of Songkla University Scholarship Programme as a structured pathway for talented students from financially disadvantaged and vulnerable households across the 14 southern provinces of Thailand.

The University has established an annual target to support the admission of at least 30 students per year from poor and vulnerable households. The programme begins at upper-secondary level and provides continuous support through entry to PSU, including scholarships, tuition support, accommodation assistance, living allowances, academic preparation and guidance.

In Academic Year 2025, the programme supported 203 students, including 119 students enrolled at PSU.

Targeted Admission of Students with Disabilities

PSU provides a dedicated admission pathway for persons with disabilities through its undergraduate admission system. The scheme includes applicants with physical or mobility impairments, visual impairments and hearing impairments who meet the academic requirements of participating programmes.

This targeted route is designed to reduce barriers in the conventional admission process and improve access to higher education for qualified applicants with disabilities.

Recruitment from Disadvantaged and Southern Border Communities

PSU also provides targeted admission opportunities for students from disadvantaged communities, including areas affected by unrest in Thailand’s southern border region. These admission pathways reflect the University’s regional mission and its commitment to widening participation among students who may face geographic, socioeconomic or social barriers to higher education.

Inclusive Recruitment of Staff and Faculty

PSU applies non-discriminatory recruitment and selection principles for academic and professional staff. Recruitment procedures are based on position requirements and prohibit unjust discrimination on the basis of gender, religion, educational institution or nationality.

The University promotes equal opportunity and multiculturalism in employment and seeks to ensure that qualified applicants from diverse backgrounds have fair access to academic and professional positions.

PSU continues to strengthen its workforce-diversity monitoring and recruitment approaches to identify areas where targeted outreach or additional measures may be required to improve representation among staff and faculty.
