7.4.4 Policy development for clean energy technology

Metric: Energy and the community

Inform and support governments in clean energy and energy-efficient technology policy development.

Prince of Songkla University (PSU) supports government agencies and public-sector partners by providing academic knowledge, technical expertise, research evidence and advisory support in areas related to clean energy, greenhouse-gas reduction, carbon management and low-carbon development.

Supporting Pattani Province in Carbon-Neutral and Clean-Energy Planning

In 2025, PSU Pattani Campus collaborated with Pattani Province to advance Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Emissions and to support the development of Pattani as a pilot green province.

The cooperation includes the development of area-based greenhouse-gas emission databases, renewable-energy pilot projects, technical and academic advisory support, greenhouse-gas reduction calculations, and training and knowledge-sharing activities for relevant government agencies, local organisations and community stakeholders.

Through this collaboration, PSU contributes scientific and technical knowledge that can support provincial planning and decision-making related to greenhouse-gas reduction, renewable energy and low-carbon development.

Academic and Technical Support for Government Decision-Making

PSU also provides academic and technical support to Pattani Province and relevant government agencies through activities related to greenhouse-gas reduction planning, carbon management and climate action.

In 2025, PSU Pattani Campus collaborated with Pattani Province through the Premium T-VER Carbon Credit Project. The collaboration included support for greenhouse-gas reduction reporting, development of greenhouse-gas reduction plans, climate-risk assessment and preparation of action plans.

These activities provide technical information and analytical support that can inform provincial planning and public-sector decision-making on carbon reduction and low-carbon development.

Through this collaboration, PSU helps translate academic knowledge and technical expertise into practical planning tools that can support government agencies in implementing climate- and clean-energy-related actions.

Research and Innovation Collaboration with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand

PSU also collaborates with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to advance research and innovation in the energy sector.

In 2025, PSU and EGAT continued their research and innovation collaboration, building on cooperation that began in 2020. The partnership focuses on research related to energy, communities, society, the environment and biodiversity, as well as the development of technologies and innovations that can contribute to more sustainable energy systems.

The cooperation also aims to translate research outcomes into practical applications with benefits for organisations, communities and society, thereby supporting broader improvements in Thailand’s energy system.

Linking University Expertise with Public-Sector Planning

Through its collaboration with Pattani Province, government agencies and national energy organisations, PSU provides research evidence, technical expertise and analytical support that can contribute to public-sector planning and decision-making.

These partnerships strengthen the connection between university research and government action in areas such as greenhouse-gas reduction, renewable energy, carbon management and the development of more sustainable and energy-efficient systems.
