7.4.3 Energy efficiency services for industry

Metric: Energy and the community

Provide direct services to local industry aimed at improving energy efficiency and clean energy (energy efficiency assessments, workshops, research renewable energy options).

Prince of Songkla University (PSU) provides technical knowledge, professional training and applied innovation support to local industries and businesses to improve energy efficiency, strengthen environmental performance and support the transition toward cleaner energy technologies.

Biogas Technology Training for Industry

On 13 November 2025, the Faculty of Science and Technology, PSU Pattani Campus, provided expert training on “Assessment and Development of Biogas System Technology for Sustainable Efficiency” in Surat Thani Province.

The training focused on the assessment and monitoring of biogas production processes, system management and hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) control, with the aim of improving the efficiency, stability and sustainability of biogas energy systems. Participants included representatives from the industrial sector, providing a direct channel for transferring PSU’s technical expertise to industry.

This activity demonstrates PSU’s direct support for industries using or developing renewable-energy systems by providing practical knowledge that can help improve the performance and reliability of biogas technology.

Professional Training for Factory Personnel

The Faculty of Engineering, PSU Hat Yai Campus, is approved by the Department of Industrial Works, Ministry of Industry, as a training provider for factory environmental personnel.

In 2025, the Faculty organised three onsite professional training programmes for industrial personnel:

  • Wastewater Treatment System Operator, 14–16 May 2025;

  • Environmental Manager, 17 May 2025; and

  • Wastewater Treatment System Controller, 19–23 May 2025.

These programmes support industrial organisations in strengthening technical capacity for environmental and resource management. Although the programmes primarily address industrial environmental management rather than energy efficiency alone, they contribute to cleaner and more efficient industrial operations.

Applied Technology Support for More Energy-Efficient Operations

PSU also supports the development and application of technologies that can improve energy and operational efficiency in industry.

One example is Kitt Connect, an AI-based maritime transport management system supported through PSU’s innovation ecosystem. The system analyses vessel loading, operating conditions and environmental factors to improve transport planning and energy use. The project is expected to reduce marine transport energy costs by more than 20%, reduce empty trips by around 30%, and improve transport-management efficiency by up to 65%.

Supporting Cleaner and More Efficient Local Industry

Through renewable-energy training, professional development for factory personnel and applied technology support, PSU provides practical services that help local industries improve operational efficiency, strengthen environmental management and adopt cleaner and more sustainable technologies.

These activities demonstrate PSU’s continuing role in transferring academic and technical expertise to industry and supporting the transition toward more energy-efficient and lower-carbon business operations.
