7.2.4 Plan to reduce energy consumption
Metric: University measures towards affordable and clean energy
Have an energy efficiency plan in place to reduce overall energy consumption.
Prince of Songkla University (PSU) has established an institutional framework to improve energy efficiency and strengthen the management of energy consumption across its campuses. The University’s Policy on Energy-Efficient Building Renovation and Construction B.E. 2566 (2023) promotes efficient energy use in buildings, low-carbon building design, energy-efficient equipment, natural ventilation and daylighting, as well as alignment with recognised green-building standards such as the Government Green Building criteria and TREES.
PSU’s Net Zero Emission Policy B.E. 2566 (2023) further supports energy-efficiency improvement by promoting more efficient use of energy and resources, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, maintaining cooling systems efficiently, and increasing the use of clean and renewable energy.
Monitoring Electricity Consumption
PSU monitors electricity consumption on both monthly and annual bases to support energy-management planning and identify periods and areas of relatively high energy demand.
In 2025, the University consumed a total of 100,467,532.75 kWh of electricity. Electricity use was monitored throughout the year, providing information on monthly consumption patterns and supporting the identification of opportunities for further energy-efficiency improvements.

Annual electricity consumption was:
2023: 79,021,680.00 kWh
2024: 83,863,600.00 kWh
2025: 100,467,532.75 kWh

The increase in electricity consumption over this period highlights the need for continued and strengthened energy-efficiency measures. PSU uses these consumption data as an evidence base for energy-management planning, building improvement and future efficiency interventions.
Campus-Level Energy Monitoring
Electricity consumption is also monitored separately across PSU’s five campuses. In 2025, Hat Yai Campus accounted for the largest share of electricity consumption, followed by Pattani, Surat Thani, Phuket and Trang campuses. This campus-level monitoring enables PSU to identify areas with relatively high electricity demand and to prioritise further energy-management and efficiency measures.
Expanding Renewable Energy
Alongside energy-efficiency measures, PSU continues to expand its use of renewable energy. In 2025, the University generated 1,216,885.81 kWh of electricity from solar power. Solar electricity generation was monitored monthly throughout the year, providing a complementary source of clean energy and reducing dependence on electricity supplied from the main grid.

Improving Energy Performance in Existing Buildings
PSU also applies energy and resource-management measures through the Green Office programme. In 2025, PSU Pattani Campus had 27 buildings certified under the Green Office standard, including one Platinum-level building and 26 Gold-level buildings. These certifications demonstrate the implementation of energy and environmental management practices within existing university buildings.

Through its building-energy policy, Net Zero framework, electricity-consumption monitoring, renewable-energy generation and Green Office implementation, PSU is progressively strengthening its approach to energy efficiency. The University continues to use energy-performance data to guide future measures aimed at improving building efficiency, reducing unnecessary energy use and supporting the transition toward a lower-carbon campus.
