1.3.3 Low-income student support

Metric: University anti-poverty programmes
Provide support (e.g. food, housing, transportation, legal services) for students from low income families to enable them to complete university.

Prince of Songkla University (PSU) provides comprehensive support for students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds to help reduce non-tuition barriers that may affect their ability to continue and complete university.

In Academic Year 2025, PSU allocated THB 562,836,000 in living-cost support, covering essential expenses such as food, accommodation and transportation for students in need.

Additional support included:
  • Work-study assistance for 869 students, with a total value of THB 3,446,070, enabling students to earn income while continuing their studies;
  • Through these financial and welfare measures, PSU seeks to ensure that students from low-income and vulnerable backgrounds are able to continue their education without being forced to withdraw because of financial hardship or unexpected living expenses.
  • Financial support for 32 students with disabilities, helping reduce additional education-related expenses;
  • Accommodation fee exemptions for Ton Kla Scholarship students, reducing the financial burden associated with university housing; and
  • Free group accident insurance for Ton Kla Scholarship students, providing additional welfare protection against unexpected financial burdens arising from accidents during their studies.
Through these measures, PSU seeks to ensure that financial hardship does not prevent students from remaining enrolled and successfully completing their studies.
