6.5.4 Sustainable water extraction on campus
Metric: Water in the community
Where water is extracted (for example from aquifers, lakes or rivers) utilise sustainable water extraction technologies on associated university grounds on and off campus.
Prince of Songkla University applies automated monitoring and control technologies to support the efficient management of groundwater extraction and water supply across its campuses.
Groundwater is pumped into the University’s water-production system, where operations are controlled through SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition). The system enables responsible staff to monitor and manage water-production processes in a systematic and efficient manner.

At Trang Campus, a dedicated groundwater-use reporting programme is used to monitor groundwater abstraction rates and support the management of groundwater use.
In the 2025 academic year, PSU recorded 848,257 cubic metres of groundwater use across its five campuses.
Groundwater is also subjected to treatment and water-quality testing before distribution to university units. Together, automated system control, groundwater-use monitoring, measured abstraction volumes, and regular water-quality checks support more responsible and efficient management of groundwater resources.
