4.3.2 Public events (lifelong learning)

Metric: Lifelong learning measures

Host educational events at university that are open to the general public.

Prince of Songkla University hosted the 2025 National Science and Technology Fair – Southern Region from 6–8 August 2025 at Faculty of Science, PSU Hat Yai Campus, Songkhla, Thailand. The event aimed to promote science and technology learning among children, young people, teachers, families and members of the wider community through interactive and experiential learning activities.

Open Access to the General Public

The event was open to the general public, including school students, teachers, parents, families and other interested members of the community.

Public access to the event was demonstrated through https://sciweek.sci.psu.ac.th/2568/, which clearly invited individuals and schools from outside the University to participate.

Evidence of public access: https://sciweek.sci.psu.ac.th/2568/

Registration conditions: The event is open to school students, teachers, parents, families, and members of the general public. Participation is not restricted to PSU students or staff.

Participation and Geographic Reach

A total of [number] participants attended the event during the three-day programme.

Participants represented [number] schools from [number] provinces/districts/areas, including schools from [list or describe geographic coverage].

Participation included:

  • [number] school students

  • [number] teachers and education personnel

  • [number] parents/family members

  • [number] members of the general public

  • [number] other external participants, if applicable

Where gender-disaggregated data were available, [xx%] of participants were female, [xx%] were male, and [xx%] identified otherwise or preferred not to specify.

These figures demonstrate broad participation beyond the PSU student and staff community.

Educational Activities

The event provided a variety of educational activities designed to stimulate curiosity and strengthen knowledge and skills in science and technology.

Key activities included:

  • [hands-on science experiments]

  • [interactive science exhibitions]

  • [science and technology demonstrations]

  • [STEM learning stations]

  • [robotics / AI / coding activities, if applicable]

  • [science competitions]

  • [career and further-study guidance in science and technology]

  • [laboratory demonstrations or visits]

  • [other major educational activities]

These activities enabled participants to learn through direct experience, experimentation, observation and interaction with PSU academics, students, researchers and scientific resources.

Inclusive Participation and Support for Underserved Groups

PSU sought to expand access to the event for children and young people from diverse educational and socioeconomic backgrounds. Participants included students from [number] small schools / opportunity-expansion schools / rural or remote schools / schools serving disadvantaged communities].

Examples of measures used to reduce barriers to participation included: ข้อนี้ถ้ามีข้อมูลก็ใส่ ถ้าไม่มีตัดออก

  • [transportation support for schools in remote areas]

  • [waiver of registration or activity fees]

  • [free participation in educational activities]

  • [support for students with disabilities]

  • [wheelchair-accessible venues or other accessible facilities]

  • [special arrangements for disadvantaged schools or learners]

  • [other support measures]

A total of [number] participants or schools benefited from these access-support measures.

These efforts supported equitable access to science and technology learning opportunities for participants who might otherwise face geographic, financial, physical or social barriers.

Learning Outcomes and Participant Evaluation

Post-event evaluation was conducted among [number] respondents, representing [xx%] of total participants / specify sample if appropriate].

The results showed that:

  • [xx%] were satisfied or highly satisfied with the overall event.

  • [xx%] reported increased knowledge or understanding of science and technology.

  • [xx%] reported increased interest in further science and technology learning.

  • [xx%] indicated that the activities encouraged them to apply scientific thinking or problem-solving skills.

  • [xx%] of teachers reported that the activities could be applied or extended to classroom learning.

  • [insert other relevant learning outcome].

The evaluation results demonstrate that the event provided not only an enjoyable public learning experience but also meaningful educational outcomes for participants.

Contribution to Lifelong and Inclusive Learning

By hosting the National Science and Technology Fair on its Hat Yai Campus and opening the event to schools, families and members of the general public, Prince of Songkla University extends educational opportunities beyond its enrolled students.

The event demonstrates PSU’s role as a public learning space where university expertise, facilities and scientific resources are made accessible to the wider community, while promoting inclusive participation and inspiring children and young people to engage with science and technology.
