6.5.6 Promoting conscious water usage on campus
Metric: Water in the community
Actively promote conscious water usage on campus.
Prince of Songkla University actively promotes responsible and efficient water use among students and staff through awareness campaigns, water-saving technologies, water-use monitoring, and sustainable campus practices.
Water-Saving Awareness and Behaviour
PSU promotes water-conscious behaviour through signs and communication materials displayed in university buildings. These messages encourage users to turn off taps after use, report leaks, use water efficiently, and adopt everyday water-saving practices.
The University also supports Green Office initiatives that integrate water conservation into daily workplace practices and encourage staff and building users to take shared responsibility for reducing unnecessary water consumption.

Water-Use Monitoring and Awareness
PSU monitors water consumption to support responsible water use and improve resource management. Online water meters enable real-time monitoring of water consumption and help responsible units identify unusual consumption patterns and potential leaks.
In 2025, selected university buildings also recorded monthly water-consumption data throughout the year. These records allow building managers to review consumption patterns, monitor changes over time, and support appropriate water-saving actions.

Monthly water-use monitoring supports evidence-based management and helps raise awareness of responsible water consumption among building users.
Water-Efficient Fixtures
PSU has progressively introduced water-efficient fixtures to reduce unnecessary water consumption. These include sensor-operated faucets and urinals that automatically control water flow and help prevent water being left running unnecessarily.
These technologies complement awareness campaigns by making water-efficient behaviour part of the everyday operation of university buildings.
Water-Conscious Landscaping and Reuse
The University further reduces potable-water demand by selecting plants with relatively low water requirements and by reusing treated wastewater for appropriate non-potable purposes.
These measures demonstrate that PSU combines behavioural awareness with practical water-management solutions to promote more efficient and responsible use of water resources across the campus.
Building a Water-Conscious Campus Culture
By combining awareness campaigns, Green Office practices, real-time monitoring, water-efficient fixtures, low-water-use landscaping, leak detection, and water reuse, PSU encourages the university community to recognise the value of water and participate actively in its responsible use.
