Participating in Policy Making and Strategic Action to Address Poverty

Prince of Songkla University (PSU), through its Pattani Campus, actively contributes to provincial poverty-reduction policy, strategic planning and implementation through the Pattani Strategic Research Area for Poverty Alleviation and Social Mobility. PSU serves as an area-based university partner, working with provincial and district government agencies and other stakeholders to develop integrated strategies for poverty alleviation in Pattani Province.

Data-Driven Policy and Decision Support

A key component of PSU’s policy contribution is the development of the Provincial Poverty Alleviation Operating System (PPAOS) and the Decision Support System (DSS). These mechanisms integrate household poverty data to identify target groups, coordinate assistance, support government decision-making, and guide appropriate poverty-reduction interventions across Pattani Province. The work is linked to the Pattani Provincial Development Plan 2023–2027 and aims to strengthen province-wide poverty reduction strategies and implementation.

Translating Policy into Action in 2025

In 2025, PSU continued translating this strategic framework into practice through the “App Tech for Pattani People: Ready-to-Use Technologies” initiative. On 10 June 2025, PSU presented appropriate technologies for poverty alleviation to provincial and district government agencies, with the Deputy Governor of Pattani and representatives from government agencies participating in the activity. The initiative forms part of the strategic research framework for eliminating poverty and creating social opportunities in Pattani.

The programme applies appropriate technologies to improve livelihoods, increase household income and strengthen opportunities for disadvantaged communities. These interventions include technologies for agriculture, food processing, livestock production, renewable energy and community enterprise development.

From Research Evidence to Provincial Poverty Policy

Through the integration of poverty data, decision-support systems, government partnerships and practical interventions, PSU contributes to both the development and implementation of poverty-reduction strategies at the provincial level. This approach enables research evidence and local household data to inform public-sector planning, targeted assistance and programmes aimed at improving income and social mobility in Pattani Province.
